The Prep School is the primary education setting at Birkenhead School. Prep provides an inspiring and stimulating environment in which children, from the age of 3 upwards, can flourish and start their educational journey.
Enquiries for entry into Prep can be made by contacting the Admissions Team or by joining us on one of our Open Days in Spring and Autumn. We also welcome parents to visit the School and meet with Mr Fitzherbert, Head of Prep, or Mr Halpin, Deputy Head of Prep.
Prep has three main points of entry:
- Pre-Prep (see Admission to Nursery)
- Reception - (for children who will have their fifth birthday in the initial academic year)
- Juniors (Year 3 upwards for children aged seven plus)
We welcome applications from all age groups and it is possible for pupils to join the Prep in any year group and at any point in the academic year, subject to places being available.
On receipt of an application form children are invited to attend a Taster Day so that they may experience a day at the School. The Taster Day is tailored for the child and they spend a fun day with a class participating in a full day of lessons and play. During the day they are also assessed in English, Mathematics and Reading by teachers and Mr Fitzherbert, Head of Prep. Througout the day we look to put the child at ease and make it an enjoyable day.
References are requested from a child's current school if they are applying for a place in Juniors (Years 3 to 5). Applications for entry into Year 6 require the assessment for entry to Seniors.
We will make an offer to pupils who we feel have the ability or clear potential to excel on our broad curriculum and play a full and active role within the School community.
Places are confirmed upon receipt of the completed Reservation Form and Reservation Fee (£300). The Reservation Fee is refunded to parents on the completion of their child's education with us. Offers must be accepted within two weeks of issue.
Parents of children aged seven-plus may apply for a bursary if they cannot afford to pay full fees. Bursaries are means-tested and vary in size dependent on family circumstances. Further information on bursaries is available at: Scholarships and Bursaries.
