Partnership With Parents

Monthly Activities Overview

Each month our children learn lots of new skills and take part in lots of different activities. Below you can find out more about what we will be focusing on in the coming weeks and how you can support your child at home.  Also included are key dates for the diary.

Toddlers December 17 - Monthly Overview

Under 2's December 17 - Monthly Overview

If you would like to find out more, please get in touch with Mrs Jan Dorney, Head of Early Years.

Parents are the lynchpins of a child's success and we firmly believe that effective partnerships with the parents of our children will enable each child to reach their potential.

The Key Person Approach

The Key Person is someone who ensures your child's needs are met and planned for,  someone who shares with you what your baby or child has been doing during the day and listens to what they have been doing at home. They are responsible for observing your child through their Nursery sessions and will keep your child's learning journal up to date with artwork, photographs and observations of them at play.

The Home Visit

We aim to offer all our new starters a home visit before they join us at Nursery. The Head of Early Years visits your child at home with a practitioner from the room your child will be joining. This is the beginning of the bonding process between your child and the Key Person.

The Settling-in Visits

Prior to starting, parents are invited to settle their child into Nursery. The number of visits will depend on your child's individual needs.

The Under-2s Home Link Diary

Your child's Key Person will record your child's daily play experiences and routines in a diary. We tailor this diary to your family's individual needs.

Family Liaison

Our Deputy Manager arranges our parents' social evenings and events. In the past, such events have included charity functions such as: The Big Toddle, Red Nose Day, Children in Need and various coffee evenings. All parents and carers are most welcome to attend.

Play Days

Play Days are an opportunity for parents to come into Nursery and be involved in their child's play. The session usually lasts for approximately an hour. In order to minimise disruption to the children's daily routine, we limit the number of parents to two per playroom at any one time.

Take Home 'Pets'

In the Toddler Room, each Key Person's group is represented by a persona doll, each of which has a pet for the children to take turns in taking home over the weekend. Looking after the pet helps encourage conversational skills and further develops a closer link between Nursery and home-life.

Take Home 'Jack'

Jack is our take home dog who goes home with our Under 2s, joining in with their family's activities. He helps develop the children's self-confidence. Parents are asked to write about Jack's adventure in his diary so that their child's story may be shared amongst their friends.
